“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.”
-Elie Wiesel
For International Peace Month, we would like to highlight a world-renowned advocate for international peace; Elie Wiesel. Wiesel is a Holocaust survivor, having been imprisoned at Auschwitz as a teenager.
After the war, Wiesel became an author. Over the course of his lifetime, he published more than forty books. One of his most recognized works is titled, Night, a semi-fictionalized exploration of the Holocaust.
Eventually, Wiesel became a naturalized American citizen. He was an outspoken advocate against inequality, injustice, and indifference to humanitarian crimes around the world. He played a large role in advocating against the Sudan genocide. Because of these efforts, Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986.
